Montgomery, AL (12/18/2023) – The Alabama Department of Archives & History (ADAH) will conclude its 2023
Food for Thought lunchtime lecture series on Thursday, December 21, at 12 p.m. CT.
ADAH Registrar Haley Aaron will present
Spaces of Self: Diaries and Scrapbooks of Young Alabamians. The program will be held in the ADAH’s Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium in Montgomery. It will also be livestreamed on the ADAH’s
Facebook page and
YouTube channel. Admission is FREE.
Scrapbooks and diaries kept by young Alabamians provide meaningful opportunities to explore their experiences throughout our state’s history. Using examples from the ADAH’s rich archival collections, Aaron will discuss how themes of learning, belonging, and becoming are reflected in these unique primary sources.
Haley Aaron is the Registrar at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, where she manages donations of historical materials to the department’s archival and museum collections. She holds a BA in journalism and history from Samford University, a MA in history from Georgia State University, and an MLIS from the University of Alabama. She is a certified archivist and a member of the American Association for State and Local History’s 2023 History Leadership Institute cohort. Her research has been featured on C-SPAN, Alabama Heritage magazine, and in the essay collection A Girl Can Do: Recognizing and Representing Girlhood.
